Texas lawmakers will return to their fourth special session of the year on Monday after taking a break for Thanksgiving, and the fight over school vouchers is expected to heat back up.

The Texas Senate has already passed a public education bill that would include education savings accounts, or ESAs, but the House voted to take vouchers out of a broader education bill.

Both chambers return to Austin Monday. Leaders from several school districts held a rally with lawmakers in Dallas recently with Dallas ISD Trustee Maxie Johnson and said most applications for vouchers in Florida, where students already have the option, were from parents with children already in private schools.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said he'll continue to advance school choice in the legislature and at the ballot box. He said parents deserve the freedom to choose the right education path for their chidlren.

This special session runs for another week and a half. Abbott has not yet confirmed whether he'll call a fifth special session if school choice fails in the fourth.
