One of the oldest and most popular barbecue chains in Texas has been ordered to repay a lot of money to its servers.

Dating back to the 1920's Depression, Black's Barbecue in Lockhart has restaurants in Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels and, of course, its original shop in Lockhart.

Black's got crosswise with the US Labor Department over a 2019 rule change saying managers are not allowed to share in the tips given to servers.

The Labor Department now says it has recovered more than $230,000 for the nearly 300 non-management workers employed by the company.

The grandson of founder Edgar Black says they outsource their payroll to a third party. Edgar Black says "we're barbecue experts, we're not payroll experts."
