Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is calling for the resignation of Alamo Trust President Kate Rogers after discovering her doctoral dissertation, which he says undermines the traditional narrative of the Alamo’s history.
The trust oversees operations and preservation of the Alamo in San Antonio.
Patrick issued his demand Thursday, arguing that Rogers’ academic work—completed years before she took the job—conflicts with how the state should present the iconic Texas landmark. Her dissertation reportedly explored how narratives of the Alamo could include broader perspectives on race, Indigenous history, and slavery.
The call for her resignation adds new tension to ongoing debates over how the Alamo’s history should be taught and interpreted. Rogers has not publicly commented on Patrick’s statement, and the Alamo Trust has not announced any changes in leadership.
The Alamo, managed jointly by the Texas General Land Office and the Alamo Trust, draws millions of visitors each year and remains one of the most politically and culturally charged historic sites in Texas.
