Mexico has filed a formal diplomatic protest over what Texas is doing to stop illegal immigration at the border, it's over the bouys placed in the Rio Grande.

Mexico’s new foreign affairs secretary, Alicia Bárcena, says the floating barriers Texas is placing in the river along the border violate a 1944 water treaty.

Bárcena says Mexico will send an inspection team to the Rio Grande to see if the buoys cross into Mexico's side of the border and if it impacts the flow of water.

Texas has been installing the obstacles over the past week, along with razor wire near Eagle Pass.

Those moves are the latest in Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s aggressive border security initiative known as Operation Lone Star.

Estimates say Operation Lone Star has cost Texas billions of dollars since it started in March of 2021.
