The Texas Department of Insurance is notifying millions of people that they may have been affected by a data breach.
An audit found a security issue in a software application the Texas Department of Insurance used to track workers' comp information. Personal information of people who filed workers comp claims between March of 2019 and January of this year could have been affected.
The department is sending letters to those people and offering them help with signing up for free credit-monitoring services. The application was also taken offline.
The department brought in an outside firm to help search the internet for any signs the data has been misused but says so far, there's no evidence of that.
