It appears that two Mississippi prison escapees are making their way west through Texas.

On Christmas Day, Tyler Payne and Traverro McElroy turned up missing from a Mississippi prison near the state capital of Jackson. Around the same time, a van was stolen from a church about a mile away.

Earlier this week, the van was hauled from Lake Fork near Quitman in Wood County in east Texas. The escapees, though, were long gone.

Now comes word from the Wood County Sheriff that Cisco police spotted the pair in a Toyota Camry with no license plate heading west on I-20 about 50 miles east of Abilene. The Cisco police chased the Camry but it got away.

Investigators believe Payne and McElroy are still heading west.
