Texas is the 'lightning capital of America'.

A company called Vaisala researches lightning happens throughout the country. Vaisala stated that Texas had more lightning than any other state. It measured 40 million different lightning events in Texas. The second-highest state wasn't even close.

Florida was second with 15 million lightning events.

The city of Teague, just south of Dallas in Freestone County, saw 736 lightning events last year.

KRLD, with Chief Metoergoloist Dan Brounoff, researched this and found that Florida has the highest "flash density"—the number of lightning strikes per square mile. It had 228 lightning strikes per square mile and Texas had 149.

Florida is 53% "flashier" than Texas.
