A peculiar problem is plaguing students at the University of Texas at Austin: Raccoons attacks.
It’s enough of an issue that the UT Austin Office of Campus Safety issued a warning about it. At this point, officials say three students have been bitten. They have all been given rabies vaccines as a precaution.
The university is reminding students that, although they can be cute, raccoons are wild animals capable of scratching, biting, and giving people rabies. They can become especially aggressive when their babies are nearby.
Officials are encouraging students to stay away from any raccoons they come across on campus and refrain from harassing them. That includes petting them, feeding them, and taking selfies with them.
