Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is criticizing the NFL’s decision to select Bad Bunny as the performer for the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show.
Paxton said he would prefer country artists such as Jason Aldean and called for more patriotism in the event’s programming.
The choice has drawn pushback from some conservatives, while others point out that Bad Bunny is an American citizen, born in Puerto Rico — a U.S. territory. The Grammy-winning artist has previously said his performances highlight culture and identity, particularly for Latino and Caribbean communities.
The Super Bowl halftime show has long been one of the most-watched music events of the year, with the NFL typically selecting global stars to headline. The league has not commented on Paxton’s criticism.
