The Texas Public Utility Commission has taken the office of Attorney General Ken Paxton to court to block the release of cryptocurrency mining data.

The PUC argues the data should remain secret, warning it could be used to commit acts of terrorism. But Texas energy economist Ed Hirs called that claim “nonsense.”

The pushback over ownership disclosure has raised further concerns about transparency in the fast-growing industry.
