The long off-season is over and the Rangers take the field today at their Spring Training complex in Surprise, Arizona.

The Rangers meet the Royals in Monday's first Cactus League game and they're hoping to rinse out the bad taste of last year when injuries were the main storyline for the team last year. After winning the World Series in 2023, Texas failed to reach the postseason and finished the campaign under the .500 mark.

Their pitching may be stronger if the pitching staff remains healty with good depth heading into the season. This unit could be what makes or breaks the year for Texas. The biggest excitement is seeing how Jacob DeGrom handles the other teams' line-ups. DeGrom is coming back from elbow ligament surgery Since being acquired ahead of the 2023 season, DeGrom has made just nine starts, though he has posted a 2.41 ERA in those 41 innings.

But for today's Cactus League opener, the ball will be handed to Nathan Eovaldi from Alvin, Texas. He's one of just two major leaguers coming out of Alvin. The other was some guy named Nolan Ryan.
