Texans who are eligible to donate blood are being called upon by the Red Cross.

Not only are we at critical levels for certain blood types locally, but as the manager of 40% of blood supply for the nation, the Red Cross is in need of donations for areas affected by natural disasters where recovery is still ongoing. That includes disasters where recovery efforts are still ongoing such as the California fires, and even Hurricane Milton and Helene.

"We need blood in an ongoing bases. It has a very short shelf life so it is needed at all times," says Red Cross CEO Linda Brady.

She says scheduled blood drives have been affected by the cold snaps in Texas, so volunteers are needed to go into donation centers.
