A Rice University student was found dead in her dorm room in what Houston police are investigating as a murder-suicide.
Authorities said officers responded to a wellness check and discovered Andrea Rodriguez Avila, a student from Maryland, dead in her room. They also found a male with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, who was identified as the shooter.
Rice University Chief of Police Clemente Rodriguez confirmed that the shooter was not affiliated with the university. It appeared Avila may have been involved in a relationship with the shooter.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
