One of Texas's most well-known state parks keeps seeing an unusual act of vandalism against our state plant.

Wildlife officials at Enchanted Rock in the Hill Country have noticed smiley faces and hearts being engraved in the pads of prickly pears. This is of course highly damaging to the cacti and can even cause the death of the whole plant.

Heart-shaped cacti can grow in the wild naturally and on Facebook, wildlife officials are begging people to "Leave the artistry to Mother Nature...and keep your carving knives sheathed inside the park."

By the way, the prickly pear has been our officially designated state plant since 1995.
