A Texas House committee could hear from death row inmate Robert Roberson next week, following a delay that temporarily halted his execution.
Roberson, who was convicted for the 2002 shaken baby syndrome death of his daughter, remains in his cell at the Polunsky Unit in Livingston awaiting further developments. His execution, which had been scheduled for last Thursday, was stopped after the committee issued a subpoena for his testimony.
The dispute centers on whether Roberson will testify in person, as the committee desires, or via Zoom, as Attorney General Ken Paxton's office insists. The committee chairman said negotiations are ongoing and they hope to secure Roberson's testimony soon.
If not for the subpoena, prosecutors say Roberson would have already been executed.
