Robert Roberson, the Texas man sentenced to death for the 2002 shaking death of his 2-year-old daughter, may have the opportunity to testify before a Texas House committee later this month.
Lawmakers have scheduled a hearing for Dec. 20, following a renewed effort to reexamine Roberson's case. Roberson was set to be executed in October, but the Texas House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence issued a subpoena that temporarily halted his execution.
Members of the committee now say new evidence suggests the child may have died from a lung disease, not abuse, raising serious doubts about Roberson’s guilt.
It remains unclear whether Roberson’s testimony will proceed as scheduled.
