Emergency crews in Central Texas were forced to suspend search and recovery operations Sunday as fresh rounds of heavy rain swept through the flood-ravaged region, prompting new water rescues and renewed flood warnings.

Officials in Kerr County say crews had been combing the Guadalupe River area for more than a week following the deadly July 4th floods, but rising water levels and dangerous conditions forced them to halt efforts for safety. Flash flood warnings were issued Sunday afternoon as storms dumped up to two inches of rain per hour across parts of the Hill Country, including Kerrville and neighboring towns.

Authorities conducted several high-water rescues Sunday after vehicles were swept off roads and low-lying neighborhoods became inundated once again. Evacuation orders were issued in parts of Kerr County, and emergency shelters were reopened for displaced residents.

Officials say they hope to resume search efforts as soon as weather conditions improve, but with more rain expected early this week, the timeline remains uncertain.

So far, at least 132 people have died in the floods, and around 170 remain missing across the Central Texas region.
