A Texas Senate committee has advanced a bill that would allow civil lawsuits of at least $100,000 against anyone involved in providing the abortion drug mifepristone.
Senate Bill 6, authored by Republican Sen. Bryan Hughes, would permit individuals to sue those who manufacture, distribute, mail, prescribe or otherwise provide the medication. The measure also bars state courts from ruling on its constitutionality and would impose the same $100,000 penalty on state judges who take up such cases.
The bill now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
