A seven-foot alligator apparently stolen as a hatchling 20 years ago is now back home at the Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo in New Braunfels.
Acting on a tip, Texas Parks & Wildlife found the gator in the back yard of a home in Buda, 35 miles from New Braunfels.
Texas P&W says the woman who lives there admitted to taking the hatchling while she worked as a volunteer at Animal World two decades ago. She has kept the gator as a pet but she does not have the required state permits to keep an alligator.
The big reptile was gathered up and hauled to Animal World, which considers itself the rightful owner. It will join the rest of Animal World's alligator family.
