A federal appeals court is allowing six victims of sex trafficking to continue their suit against an internet provider.

The women include several from Texas and all claim the internet provider Salesforce knowingly gave support to an illegal web service known as Backpage.

Backpage was shut down for doing exactly what the women allege, advertising them while they were trapped in sex trafficking operations. So the women are now going after Salesforce.

The company has tried to claim it is shielded by laws that protect the activity. But the 5th Circuit says those shields only apply to the actual publishers and only in some circumstances. The Appeals Court says Salesforce is neither a publisher nor protected in this case.

The lawsuit was sent back to a district court for trial.
