Shock in Waco after reports of BIG 12 breakaway

It appears nobody saw this one coming.

Reports that Texas and Oklahoma are petitioning the Southeastern Conference for membership sent shockwaves through the college football landscape, and the news was especially stunning in cities that are home to Big 12 member schools.

Asked if the news came as a surprise in Waco, home of Baylor University, Sic 'Em 365 Radio host Paul Catalina said "shocking" is much more accurate.  He said if UT and OU end up bailing on the conference, a mad scramble could ensue for schools including Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech.

Nine years after joining the SEC, Texas A&M is strongly opposed to the Longhorns joining their league.  Catalina said that could be important for the schools hoping to keep the Big 12 together.

Officials with the SEC, UT and OU have not commented publicly on the reports.  According to a report from CBS Sports, the athletic directors of the other Big 12 school plan to meet at 5 p.m. Thursday to discuss the situation.

KRLD's Chris Sommer talked with Catalina about the rumors.
