Man suspected of shooting Corpus Christi officer now in custody

A statewide search for the man suspected of shooting a Corpus Christi police officer has come to an end. The Corpus Christi police department reported Joshua Powell was in custody Thursday.

Investigators say 20-year-old Joshua Powell shot Officer Manuel Dominguez several times Wednesday afternoon as the officer responded to a call for service at the Marbella Apartment Homes on Weber Road.

Police chief Mike Markle said Powell fired at Officer Manuel Dominguez multiple times from inside an apartment leaving him injured severely. The officer -- with two decades on the force -- is in a hospital in stable condition.

Authorities issued a Blue Alert for the suspect Thursday, described as standing 5’8” tall and weighing roughly 155 pounds. Powell has brown eyes, dreadlocks, and tattoos on his left arm.
