Acclaimed Texas filmmaker Taylor Sheridan will write, produce and direct a new immersive film about the Battle of the Alamo for the state-of-the-art 4D theater at San Antonio’s upcoming Alamo Visitor Center and Museum.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the project Tuesday after personally selecting the Fort Worth-raised creator of “Yellowstone” and “Landman.” Patrick said he knew Sheridan was the right choice once he reviewed plans for the theater, which officials describe as the world’s most technologically advanced 4D experience. It will combine dynamic visual effects, sound and physical elements to recreate the 1836 siege in a multisensory way. Sheridan immediately agreed to take on the film.
The nearly 160,000-square-foot Alamo Visitor Center and Museum is under construction in downtown San Antonio, incorporating the historic Crockett and Woolworth buildings. It will include immersive galleries, a rooftop terrace, cafe and gift shop alongside the 4D theater. The facility is scheduled to open in 2027 as part of the broader Alamo Plaza redevelopment.

The project aims to enhance the visitor experience at one of Texas’ most visited historic sites while preserving its legacy. Officials expect the new museum and film to draw millions more tourists each year, boosting the local economy and giving both Texans and out-of-state guests a modern, engaging way to learn about the battle that helped shape the state.
No public safety issues or construction delays were mentioned in the announcement. The collaboration marks another high-profile effort to blend Hollywood storytelling with Texas history.
