Dallas Mavericks fans and season ticket holders are getting their say right now on where the team’s next arena should be built and what features it should offer.
The invite-only survey went to Club Maverick members this week. It asks about preferred locations, desired amenities, ticket options and examples of modern venues such as Chase Center in San Francisco. The Mavericks’ lease at American Airlines Center expires in 2031, and the team has narrowed its search to two Dallas sites: the current City Hall location downtown and the former Valley View Mall property in far North Dallas. Mavericks leadership has said it hopes to announce a site decision by summer.
At the same time, the City of Dallas launched its own public “Open Call for Concepts” survey seeking community ideas on the future of Dallas City Hall and surrounding properties. Residents and developers can propose whether to renovate the I.M. Pei-designed building or redevelop the prime downtown site entirely. Submissions are due by May 3.
The Mavericks have confirmed ongoing discussions with city officials about keeping the franchise in Dallas and creating a modern arena with mixed-use development that includes retail, housing and public spaces. A new venue would be built to open in time for the 2031-32 season, potentially reshaping a major section of downtown or North Dallas for decades.
City officials emphasize the surveys are separate but part of broader planning for public facilities and economic growth. No final decisions have been made, and no injuries or public safety issues are connected to the process.
