Picking third in the 2022 NFL Draft which began Thursday night in Las Vegas, the Houston Texans selected Derek Stingley Junior, a cornerback out of LSU.
Derek is the grandson of Daryl Stingley whose NFL career ended at the age of 26 when he was left a quadriplegic in a 1978 on-field collision that broke his neck. Stingley died in 2007.
As a freshman at LSU, Derek Stingley led the SEC with six picks and was a first-team All-SEC selection by the AP. He was also a consensus All-American.
Still just 20-years-old, he declared for the NFL draft in January.
