With wildfires still burning furiously, the Texas A&M Forest Service has bumped up its State Preparedness Level.
On a scale of one to five, the State Preparedness Level is now at four, with increasing potential for large fires and a growing commitment of state and local firefighters and equipment.
Texas A&M Forest Service Fire Chief Wes Moorehead says "the decision to move to a Preparedness Level 4 indicates that the complexity of wildfires across Texas is increasing to where they require more time, personnel and equipment to contain."
All this week the fire environment was plagued by critical to extreme weather conditions and extremely dry grass that supported the growth of several large wildfire across Texas.
Over these past seven days, state, federal and local firefighers have been extremely busy responding to more than 190 wildfires that have charred nearly 175,000 acres.
