As large portions of Texas brace for winter weather, it appears coastal areas will avoid the worst of the forecasted ice and snow.
While much of the state prepares for slick streets and freezing precipitation, temperatures near the Texas coast are expected to remain above freezing, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Bradley Brocap.
"As we head into Wednesday night and Thursday morning, we're mainly looking at the possibility for rain in the Houston area," he said. "Now, the mix of wintry precipitation will be further north toward the Brazos Valley and Piney Woods area."
Residents in other parts of Texas are urged to take precautions as winter weather moves through the state.
