Correctional officers with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice will get a raise, effective April 1.
"Our most critical function is the safety and security of our institutions. That requires correctional officers to stay employed, but also to be able to recruit and bring new people to that workforce. That is what this pay raise is specifically focused to try to help us do," TDCJ Executive Director Bryan Collier said. "Correctional officer staffing continues to be the agency's number one priority, and it is truly a privilege to be able to provide this well-deserved pay increase to the hard-working correctional staff who serve the state of Texas in such a valuable and challenging capacity."
The 15% pay increase will also apply to correctional supervisors, food service and laundry managers.
Collier posted a message online this week to employees in other departments.
"I understand the work that each of you do, and how critical that work is...and how we need to look at that as we continue down the road as an agency," he said. "Please know that you have my commitment as we enter the 2023 legislative cycle that those discussions will be had with legislative leadership as we go through the 2023 session."
