The state of Texas says Planned Parenthood is on the hook for millions of dollars, and the case is headed to federal court.

In a seemingly first of its kind lawsuit, Texas is calling for Planned Parenthood to give back Medicaid reinbursements and to pay fines on top of that. The issue seems to be about the money Planned Parenthood received for health services for low-income women before Texas took them off the state’s Medicaid program in 2021.

Planned Parenthood argues the Medicaid payments were for a variety of health services, including cancer screenings and this attempt to recoup the money is a new effort to weaken their organization.

This lawsuit goes before federal judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in Amarillo today.
