Heavy rain and thunderstorms over North Texas caused several flights to be diverted Sunday evening. Three flights headed to two different destinations landed at Waco Regional Airport.
A SkyWest flight operating as United Airlines was headed from Springfield, Missouri to Houston. SkyWest says the flight hit turbulence and landed safely in Waco.
"Medical personnel met and evaluated passengers, and five passengers were transported to the hospital. SkyWest and United are making sure all customers get the care they need and are working to line up new transportation options for everyone on this flight," SkyWest wrote in a statement.
The interim director of Waco Regional Airport says no injuries were life threatening.
Two flights headed for DFW Airport were also diverted to Waco because of the weather. No one was hurt on either of those flights, and American Airlines says both flights continued to DFW after the weather passed.
