
Texas lawmakers say they have found a way to save billions on border security as they craft the state’s budget.
State Sen. Joan Huffman (R-Houston) said if the deployment of National Guard troops at the southern border were ordered by the White House instead of Gov. Greg Abbott, the federal government would be responsible for the costs.
Texas officials are already in discussions with Congress and the Trump administration about border security funding. Abbott is requesting reimbursement for the $11 billion the state has spent on Operation Lone Star.
