Buying Lotto Texas tickets online is no longer allowed following a decision by the Texas Lottery Commission to ban the use of third-party lottery couriers.

The commission voted Tuesday to adopt a new rule prohibiting the services, which buy lottery tickets on behalf of customers and resell them online, often in bulk.

One such service, Lotto.com, has filed a lawsuit against the commission in an attempt to continue operations in the state.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has voiced support for the ban and broader efforts to rein in the commission’s authority. A measure to dissolve the Texas Lottery Commission altogether is also being considered in the state legislature.
