Nicole Graham has no reservations dealing with snakes, and that is a trait her daughter Haylie is extremely grateful for. Especially now.
Graham, was cleaning some chicken coops as part of her job when she noticed a snake pop its head out of a barrel of hay.
Luckily, she was wearing gloves and was carrying a long stick, so she was able to pry the snake, which she recognized as a non-venomous rat snake, out of the hay, and proceeded to make her way to release it around the forest line.
Unfortunately, the snake wiggled free, and made a beeline right for her daughter's car!
Graham told Today.com, "It happened so fast."
Cool as she is, Graham began sweet talking the snake trying to encourage it to exit her daughter's car, and not slither its way further down into the engine.
Luckily, she was able to coax the snake out of the car, and was able to eventually safely release it as intended.
Graham says this was an example of the backyard self-sufficiency (gardening, raising chickens, life-cycle education) that she and her husband instill in their clients and daughters alike.
"My youngest girls don't know anything different," Graham says. "We have chickens in our backyard and a garden. There's a lot to be learned from it."
Graham and her husband Mike co-own The Garden Hen, where they teach people how to become urban chicken farmers.
