A candidate running for Texas railroad commissioner is creating lots of talk over a video she posted on Tiktok.
The five-second clip shows Republican Sarah Stogner wearing panties, pasties, and a cowboy hat and boots as she sits astride an abandoned pump jack. She released it on Superbowl Sunday and it cost her the endorsement of the San Antonio Express News.
The 37-year-old oil and gas attorney from Monahans says she expected to hear "Oh look," as "People pay attention to a naked woman but they don't care about the radium 226 and 228 in our groundwater and the fact that the railroad commission is lawyering up against landowners instead of helping them."
The commission has nothing to do with railroads and regulates the oil and gas industry in Texas.
Stogner says the response, for the most part, has been overwhelmingly positive.
"People understand it," Stogner said. "They realize we've got bawdy humor in the oil and gas industry. It's been very well received."
Stogner says she doesn't want to be a politician, but that: "I realize that the only way we are going to effectuate real change is to get a change in leadership. If Christi Craddick, Wayne Christian and Jim Wright all step down I will withdraw from the race. We need someone who is willing to go in there and make difficult decisions and doesn't have long-term political aspirations."
Wright's seat is up for election and each term is six years.
