Two of the largest jackpot-winning Lotto Texas tickets in recent years are under investigation by the Texas Rangers following concerns raised by Gov. Greg Abbott.
In 2023, a European group purchased more than 25 million Lotto Texas tickets through a courier service and won a $95 million jackpot. Earlier this month, another courier-sold ticket won an $83 million prize.
Couriers purchase tickets from licensed lottery retailers and resell them online, a practice the Texas Lottery Commission now says it is working to ban.
State Sen. Paul Bettencourt has called for stricter oversight, and Abbott ordered an investigation, stating that "Texans must know that the lottery is conducted with integrity and lawfully."
The inquiry into the jackpot wins is ongoing.
