Texas is second in the nation when it comes to new residents.

The annual study by the National Association of Realtors shows that when it comes to migration, The Lone Star state is just short of Florida, which is at the top of the list for new residents.

According to U.S. Census Bureau data, 42% of these moves were driven by housing reasons, 26% for family reasons, 16% for employment reasons, and only one percent moved due to climate-related reasons.

Matt Christopherson says that the work-from-home movement is allowing people to escape high-rent states like California. "People are really looking to get more home for money which they're finding in Texas," says Christopherson.

Their report cited Texas' strong job market, too. Last year, the state's population grew by about 315,000. And many of those new residents are California transplants.
