Gov. Greg Abbott’s top priority of property tax relief took a step forward as a Texas Senate committee unanimously advanced a new plan.
The legislation, authored by Sen. Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston), proposes raising the state’s homestead exemption from $100,000 to $140,000.
"That does provide a huge savings of $363 for the average homestand," he said.
The bill now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
Abbott declared property tax relief an emergency item for the state’s legislative session, signaling its importance for swift legislative action.
