Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's plan to deny bail to violent offenders has received final approval from the state Senate, moving the three-bill package to the House of Representatives.
Authored by Sen. Joan Huffman (R-Houston), the package includes Senate Joint Resolution 1 and Senate Bill 9, which would deny bail to individuals with prior felony convictions.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said the bills have strong support in the House.
The measures are part of Abbott's broader push to strengthen bail restrictions in Texas. If approved by the House, Senate Joint Resolution 1 would require voter approval in a statewide referendum to take effect.
