Those popular paper license tags that have caused so many problems across Texas because they are easily forged and used by criminals could soon be a thing of the past.

The Texas Senate voted yesterday, 30-1 to pass a bill that would eliminate them entirely. Instead, auto dealers would install metal license plates before the car before leaves the lot.

This comes after years of complaints from law enforcement agencides statewide, as some of those tags were then used on cars involved in serious crimes.

Over the last year the Texas DMV has suspended dozens of licensed car dealers suspected of using the state's own system to sell fraudulent tags on the black market.

The paper tags have also gone through a couple of redesigns to improve security measures, but criminals have found ways around that.
