President-elect Trump may be softening on plans for mass deportations.
Some of his surrogates suggested earlier this week that they will instead focus on illegal immigrants who committed crimes. Civil rights groups think there has been pressure from parts of the business community that rely on cheap labor.
"Him [President-elect Donald Trump] being a business person having hotels, golf courses, hospitality; one in 14 workers would be deported," LULAC member Ray Mancera said.
Mancera represents El Paso within the Latino rights group LULAC. He stated that they support the deportation of criminals, and they're telling migrant communities to stay out of trouble during the Trump administration.
However, they also said that those who are currently awaiting an immigration court date should be allowed to stay.
