The University of Texas at Austin has named Jim Davis as its interim president following a vote by the Board of Regents.
Davis, who currently serves as the university’s senior vice president and chief operating officer, was previously vice president for legal affairs and business strategies.
His appointment comes as outgoing President Jay Hartzell prepares to step down earlier than expected. Hartzell announced in June that he would resign to become the next president of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
University officials have not yet outlined plans for selecting a permanent president.
