University of Texas commit Lydia Jacoby is the surprise Gold Medal winner in the 100-meter breast stroke event at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 17-year-old was third at the turn, behind South Africa's Tatjana Schoenmaker and fellow American Lilly King. But Jacoby rallied and won Gold with a time of 1:04.95.

Back home in Seward, Alaska her friends, classmates, family and neighbors gathered for a watch party and erupted in a delighted, delirious celebration.

King ended up with the bronze to give the USA two places on the medal stand.

Last year, Jacoby committed to attending and swimming for UT-Austin. She will enroll in the Fall of 2022.
