The New Orleans Police Department has identified the officer slain last night at a restaurant in Houston, Texas.
Sources have identified the victim as veteran detective Everett Briscoe.
Briscoe is a 13-year veteran of the force and worked as an investigator in the First District.
He was also part of the department’s Homicide Investigations Division.
The 41-year-old officer also received the departments Unit Citation in 2016.
Though the department has yet to official identify Briscoe as the victim of the shooting at a Galleria area restaurant when dining outside they were approached by a pair of armed men intent on robbing them.
Eyewitnesses said everybody was complying with the men’s demand for items when one of them shot Briscoe and another New Orleans officer.
According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, Briscoe is a father of two.
After word of the killing, Chief Superintendent of Police Shaun Ferguson issued a statement:
“I … ask that you pray for the NOPD family as we begin to understand the enormous loss we have suffered.”
