The U.S. Surgeon General came out with a new advisory about parental stress being a serious public health concern.
Surgeon general advisories are statements sent to the public that draw attention to a rising concern on a public health issue to bring more awareness to it.
The advisory cited a 2023 survey of adults from the American Psychological Association that found 33% of parents reported high levels of stress in the past month compared with 20% of other adults.
From its collected data, the article warns that parenting can drastically impact mental and physical health and ultimately impact the relationship between the parent and child. The article also provides recommendations on how to combat this and what several stakeholders can do to help solve this problem.
