This won't sway you if you've lived here all your life, but according to a new Bankrate study, Texas isn't a great place to retire.
Texas ranked #44.
"It was mainly dragged down by its poor rankings in overall well-being, healthcare and crime," said Alex Gailey from Bankrate. "We also do see property tax rates and homeownership insurance higher in Texas."

Bankrate’s study ranked all 50 states on metrics important to retirees in 2023, including affordability (40%), overall well-being (25%), quality/cost of healthcare (20%), weather (10%), and crime (5%).
Somehow Iowa ranked #1. Evidently the Hawkeye State does well in affordability (3), quality/cost of health care (11) and crime (12). Iowa also had a strong ranking in cost of living (6).
