The jet stream, which steers weather systems around the globe, remains well to the north of the Lone Star State. This means above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation will continue for at least the next week.
The jet stream's location leaves a strong upper-level area of high-pressure overhead. That means the air will continue to sink, which causes compression. This is a heating effect. It also inhibits clouds from forming and bubbling up into showers and thunderstorms. The air quality will remain poor for the foreseeable future until the southerly winds pick up.
Afternoon highs will reach the low 90s on Thursday through the weekend. Morning lows will range from 65-71 degrees. Humidity levels will be rather low during the afternoon hours.
The next subtle weather change arrives early Monday as a weak cold front backs into the area from the northeast. This will drop the temperatures a few degrees by next Tuesday and Wednesday. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid to upper 80s. The mornings will be slightly cooler, low to mid-60s. No rain is in the forecast at least for the next seven days.
