Some pretty large hail fell just north and west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area Monday night and early Tuesday morning, but those storms moved through the area by sunrise.
Officially at DFW Airport, almost half an inch of rain fell. Further to the north, 2-3 inches of rain fell overnight.
Now the fun stuff… this air is very cold! Model data seems to be downplaying how cold we will actually be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This cold front will plow through North Texas mid to late morning Tuesday, dropping temperatures rapidly into the 30s with wind chills in the twenties after lunchtime. Temperatures will continue to tumble down into the low to mid-20s by Wednesday morning.
As expected, the Winter Weather Advisory has been pushed farther south and southwest. The reason there's no Winter Storm Warning is that precipitation totals will be on the lighter side - less than a 3rd of an inch - But, as we know, it doesn't take much ice to wreak havoc on the roadways.
The most critical time not to travel will be after sunset tomorrow through at least Thursday afternoon maybe into Friday late morning. The Interstates will improve Thursday afternoon, but the interior roads may remain a mess.
Please start making the necessary precautions for sporadic power outages and make sure you have enough food for a couple of days.
High temperature by Friday afternoon will be near 40゚ with sunshine. The roads will rapidly improve by the improve by then.
You're OK Tuesday, please feel free to move about the cabin, however, things will deteriorate rapidly starting Wednesday evening. The precipitation starts off light, but increases in intensity Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon.
Clouds will stick around Friday and Saturday and temperatures will remain cold with readings near 40 degrees. There may even be some light rain mixing with sleet during the day Saturday. We'll be in the 50s by Sunday and in the 60s by Monday.
