High temperatures reached 100 degrees on Thursday, and the hottest day of the year so far will arrive on Friday with the high expected to reach 103. It will mark the ninth triple-digit temperature this summer. The weather this weekend will be slightly cooler with a small chance of showers late Friday night into Saturday morning.

Friday morning arrived with a mainly clear sky with temperatures in the 70s. There was a dying cluster of showers and storms in eastern Oklahoma that put out a small wind field that approached the Red River Valley. This boundary will stall across the Red River counties ahead of a weak cold front that'll move into the area by daybreak Saturday morning. Before that, afternoon highs will reach around 103 degrees on Friday.

That weak cold front in central Oklahoma will move through the area into Saturday morning. There's a slight chance a few showers could form along this front as temperatures drop into the mid to upper 70s. Any showers that do form will press south of North Texas during the day on Saturday and increase in coverage as the front moves into Central Texas by evening. Afternoon highs on Saturday will range between 98 and 102 degrees from north to south. There will also be some Saharan dust around.

Sunday looks sunny and seasonable with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s.

Next week, a bubble of high pressure that will have drifted to the west of us this weekend will build back over the area. This will cause temperatures to heat right back up. Plenty of sunshine with highs of 98 to 102 degrees on Monday and Tuesday, and 100-105 on Wednesday and Thursday. At least the humidity will be rather low during the afternoon hours, but Heat Advisories will be back in full force. No rain is in the forecast.
