Heat advisory Friday, isolated storms through the weekend

North Texas Forecast for August 15, 2025
North Texas Forecast for August 15, 2025
National Weather Service

A couple of fortunate individuals experienced brief heavy rain late yesterday afternoon and evening, with the same scenario anticipated for today and the weekend. A few of you can expect late-day showers and storms, while others will remain dry. Heat advisories are currently in place today.

Happy Friday, ladies and gentlemen. Yesterday, DFW airport nearly reached 100 degrees, with a recorded high of 99 degrees. It was extremely hot. Today, we anticipate reaching the upper 90s again, with heat index values approaching 105 degrees. Similar to yesterday, a few fortunate individuals will experience a shower or storm later today, with the best chances located south of the DFW.

It is advisable to keep your umbrella handy this weekend. The area of moisture currently moving into South Texas will shift northward along the Rio Grande and into the Hill Country on Saturday and Sunday. Some of these storms will move across the Colorado River, west of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, throughout the period. Although most areas will remain dry, I cannot rule out the possibility of late-day showers and storms across North Texas this weekend. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-to-upper 90s, with heat index values as high as 103 degrees.

The area of moisture streaming northward this weekend will dissipate by Monday and Tuesday of next week. Scattered showers and storms, particularly east of Dallas, can be expected on Monday and Tuesday. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-90s, accompanied by high humidity.

By next Wednesday, a cold front will pass through the area later in the day. Compressional heating may occur ahead of the front, potentially causing some areas to reach 100 degrees. Widespread shower and thunderstorm activity will develop later in the day and overnight, with some rain potentially being heavy at times. I will have a better understanding of this as we approach early next week. Afternoon highs on Thursday may not exceed 90 degrees behind the front, with some leftover showers and storms.

I will continue to monitor the radar this weekend, but I am not overly concerned. Have a great day today and please enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
