It's now official. The National Weather Service confirms a massive hailstone that bombed Sanger the night of June 15th was a genuine whopper.

A NWS Survey Team inspected the hailstone and verified the initial measurements with a diameter of 5.9 inches and a weight of more than 13.5 ounces.

Falling from a great height, experts say a hailstone with that size could easily be deadly if it hit someone on the head.

But it's not quite a Texas record. The biggest hailstone ever in the state fell on Hondo in Medina County in April of 2021. That monster was 6.42 inches in diameter and weighed more than 20 ounces.
